Recommended campsites in France

I have visited France a number of times with my Family of 5 (one 5 year old, one 7 year old and one 11 year old) and thought I would tell you about our experiences.

In July 2006 we tried a camping holiday with the European company, Eurocamp. We chosen a few campsites in France in the region known as Brittany, which wasn’t too much of a journey from the shores of the UK. Since we had a toddler in our midst then we took the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry crossing, only taking 6 hours and leading us into the gateway of the Brittany region. We were instantly hooked to camping holidays from our first campsite called Pointe St Gilles. The vast ammount of activities and quality of facilities on the site gave us a completely new perspective on camping. We stayed in a large pre built tent with all amenities to cook sleep and wash.

Our next campsite we visited on our 14-day holiday was La Grande Metairie, reviews suggested this was a great campsite for toddlers and youngsters and we weren’t disappointed. The campsite had a farm with lots of fun animals for the youngsters to be entertained with, and our eldest loved the pony riding and slides. On this particular site we stayed in a static mobile home.

Our final campsite on our holiday was to be a site called Chateau Des Ormes that had great reviews too! Just when we thought we had experienced the best from this new type of holiday, we was truly blown away with the scenery, amount of activities and very impressed with how clean and well maintained all the high standard of facilities were kept on site. The campsite had friendly and helpful staff and was owned by a family who inherited the Chateau grounds through the years. As well as plenty of sports and fun activities for the kids, I managed to enjoy a little golf and the wife enjoyed relaxing by the pool. After returning to this Brittany campsite in 2008, we had noticed it had grown even larger with bigger static mobile homes on the site and even kids clubs to give the parents a rest in the sunny hours of the day! I would definitely recommend this type of holiday to any family.
